A Yonkers man is dead and a woman remains hospitalized after their fishing boat capsized over the weekend in New Castle.
Police say the pair headed out onto the New Croton Reservoir between 3 and 5 a.m. They say the vessel overturned at some point, although it is currently unclear why.
Responders pulled 53-year-old Rufus Barr from the water at around 9 a.m. near Pines Bridge. He never regained consciousness.
His 53-year-old female companion was rushed to Northern Westchester Hospital. She is listed in stable condition.
Police say they are waiting for autopsy results to determine the man's cause of death. They say there were life vests on the boat but the two people were not wearing them.
Police have not released the identity of the woman. A woman who called News 12 was upset that the friend would be confused as his spouse. She did not comment any further on the incident.
