Police arrested a Pennsylvania woman in the "Sweet Sally" animal cruelty case in Orange County.
The woman who brought the critically ill pit bull to the Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark last month turned out to be the dog's owner.
Rhonda Peterson, 51, is charged with animal cruelty in Pennsylvania, where she lived with "Sweet Sally." News 12 is told that Peterson had first claimed that she found the dog abandoned on the side of the road.
"Sweet Sally" died of her injuries last month. Rescuers say she had not eaten in weeks and, despite donations pouring in for the dog, her frail body couldn't overcome the abuse.
The Humane Society is now selling anti-animal cruelty shirts in memory of Sally.
