A five-time convicted felon was arrested Thursday after authorities discovered he was carrying drugs and a loaded semi-automatic gun in Poughkeepsie.

Police say Richard Whitted tried to run away during a traffic stop along Smith Street near the Hudson Garden Apartments. Investigators then found a semi-automatic handgun and narcotics.

Authorities say he faces multiple charges for carrying a firearm, resisting arrest and drug possession.

Whitted will remain in jail until his arraignment, according to authorities.
