In Rockland County, police confirmed a fatal car crash shut down the Palisades Parkway for several hours Sunday morning.
Emergency officials say a northbound car crossed the median and slammed into another car on the southbound side just before 5 a.m. in Stony Point just past Exit 15.
The northbound driver died at the scene, while the southbound driver had non-life-threatening injuries.
The southbound lanes remained closed for most of the morning, as state police conducted their investigation.
There is no word what caused the northbound driver to lose control. There is also no word on the identity of the driver.
