Police say a driver lost control in front of a Yonkers post office and hit two young girls Monday.
The incident occurred at 79 Main St. in Getty Square.
News 12 has learned that the driver may have hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes, as the vehicle went up on the sidewalk as the driver was trying to park.
Police say a white SUV struck the two girls, who are believed to be sisters, as they were walking with their mother when the incident occured.
They say the SUV was trying to park when another car tapped it from behind. Officials say the SUV driver hit the gas, and the car knocked the parking meter to the ground. The car then struck the two girls.
Emergency crews say one of the girls was hurt, but that the injuries are not life-threatening.
Police tell News 12 that the drivers aren't cooperating. A relative who did not want to go on camera says the mother is with the girls at Westchester Medical Center.
At this time, police believe the incident was an accident.
