A minivan driver apparently wasn'tfeeling well before going the wrong way on the Taconic State Parkway for nearly two miles, leading to a fiery wreck that killed eight people, police said Monday.
State police said 36-year-old Diane Schuler apparently told her brother, Warren Hance, in a phone call about two hours before the crash that she was feeling ill. He told her to pull over and said he'd go to get her. It's unclear where she was at the time or exactly what occurred after that.
Authorities said Monday the victims in the crash include Schuler, of West Babylon on Long Island, and her 2-year-old daughter, Erin. Also killed were Warren Hance?s daughters: 9-year-old Emma Hance, 7-year-old Alison Hance and 5-year-old Kate Hance.
Schuler was an employee of Cablevision, the parent company of News 12.
The other victims in the Mount Pleasant crash were from Yonkers. They were driver Guy Bastardi; his father, 81-year-old Michael Bastardi; and 74-year-old Daniel Longo.
AP wire services were used in this report.
