Police safely escorted a man down from the ledge of a Bronx building Tuesday afternoon after he threatened to jump.
Authorities say they negotiated with the 23-year-old, who neighbors identified as Jamal, for several hours while he threatened to jump from the 10th floor of an apartment building. Officers were stationed on the ninth and 11th floors to speak with Jamal, while other emergency responders set up a large net and airbags at the base of the building.
Police say they safely removed Jamal's sister and mother before beginning negotiations. They eventually convinced Jamal not to jump. He was taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.
Neighbors say they are thankful the incident didn't end in tragedy. Police say Jamal's motive for jumping is still unclear.
