Several dozen people demonstrated outside the Peekskill office of Sen. Chuck Schumer Wednesday.
Protesters want Sen. Schumer to hold congressional hearings and address the issue of police brutality.
"I cannot stomach how our country has treated and is treating people of color," said Robin Alpern, of Peekskill.
In a statement to News 12, a spokesman for Sen. Schumer's office said, "We had a scheduled meeting with this group, but they unfortunately canceled and have not accepted another time. When they do, our office will be happy to discuss these important issues in detail."
Rally organizers say they plan to march through the streets of White Plains on Saturday to spread their message.
The rally was held in the wake of recent grand jury decisions not to indict white police officers in the deaths of unarmed black men.
