The driver of a car that left the roadway and killed a 70-year-old Yonkers woman before slamming into a house may have been in an "altered state" at the time, according to police.

Authorities say the crash happened on 693 North Broadway just before 7 p.m.

They say a 70-year-old Yonkers woman was walking along the sidewalk when she was fatally struck by a car driven by a 54-year-old woman from White Plains.

That woman was taken the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

According to police, the car kept going after hitting the woman and went through the house on North Broadway, where those three women were watching TV.

A family member who rushed to the scene said her relatives suffered some injuries before they went to the hospital to be treated.

It was not immediately clear what caused the driver to lose control and police are awaiting toxicology reports.

The names of people involved have not yet been released.
