Police say they are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed following a chain-reaction crash in Yonkers.
They say the fatal accident happened around 6 p.m. Thursday on Yonkers Avenue, between the Walnut Street and Nepperhan Avenue split.
According to police, the driver of a Jeep SUV was traveling westbound when she struck 62-year-old Yonkers resident Duane Selby, then hit another car and rolled over.
Selby was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
People in the area say trying to cross the busy road is extremely dangerous.
"The kids that cross the street here or the parents or anybody for that matter, they have no regard, they come down here like it's the Indy 500," says Joe Johnson, of Yonkers.
Yonkers Avenue had to be shut down for several hours while investigators worked at the scene.
Police have not released the name of the driver, but say the person is from Yonkers and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
They say no charges are currently pending.
