Sixteen people have been arrested for car insurance claims, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.

The investigation was done by State Police and the Department of Financial Services (DFS). The agencies uncovered nearly $500,000 in attempted fraudulent claims across New York City and Suffolk, Onandaga, Monroe and Erie counties.

In one incident in Brooklyn back in 2025, a driver allegedly turned into another car at an intersection and then lied to authorities, saying that the victim ran a stop sign. The suspect received more than $16,000 from medical insurance claims.

Those arrested are facing 31 total charges, including 29 felonies and two misdemeanors.
