On Saturday, officers were called for a welfare check at an apartment complex on 4 Gesner Drive around 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the two women with severe head injuries. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to Westchester Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

Abad was arrested in New Jersey less than a day after the incident. According to court documents, Abad is accused of striking the victims numerous times in the head and body and obstructing their attempts to call for help.

Police have noted that the victims and Abad were acquainted, describing the killings as an isolated incident with no broader threat to the public.
