Two seventh grade students were charged with a felony after a threat was sent out during a dance at C.J. Hooker Middle School.
According to Goshen school officials, a student reported receiving a threat via AirDrop toward the end of the school dance Friday night. Building staff contacted the police and began to evacuate the students.
Goshen police say they arrived around 7:30 p.m. and swept the building for explosives with a K-9. They then arrested the two students, who are now each charged with one felony count of falsely reporting an incident.
This is the fourth case of an AirDrop threat to have occurred at Hudson Valley schools in recent weeks.
Investigators determined that the AirDrop threat concerning C.J. Hooker Middle School was a hoax.
It came just a day after someone sent a similar message to a Goshen High School student that threatened gun violence at the school.
That threat was also classified as a hoax after police searched the building while they kept students safely inside.
There have been no arrests made so far in the case of the threat message sent to the high school.
Goshen Schools Superintendent Dr. Kurtis Kotes released a statement about the ongoing threats. It said in part that district officials are reviewing how they can avoid future incidents, while also recommending parents adjust settings in their child’s iPhone to block the AirDrop feature.
