Police say a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to a shooting that left a 40-year-old Yonkers man dead last Wednesday.
The NYPD says 19-year-old Brandon Hayes, from the Bronx, is being charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
They believe he may be the person responsible for shooting Kavon Reid two times, once in the leg and once in the chest last Wednesday. The shooting happened just before 1:30 p.m. on 198th Street and Pond Avenue, according to police.
Surveillance video showed Reid walking up 198th Street on his phone, and then the suspect is seen lifting his arm and pulling the trigger.
Reid was a father of three children and a member of the anti-gun violence advocacy group BRAG.
"My father didn't deserve this. He was a good person," said his daughter Hevyn Reid. She told News 12 her father was her best friend and he would be deeply missed.
Police say currently they are still investigating the motive for the shooting.
The Bronx District Attorney's Office tells News 12 that Brandon Hayes will be back in court on Oct. 11.
