A neighborhood in Peekskill is on edge after a daylight shooting that took the life of one man.
Police say gunfire broke out around 4 p.m. Sunday in the area of John and Spring streets.
Residents living in the area say they heard several gunshots.
When investigators arrived, they found a 35-year-old man who had suffered gunshot wounds.
They immediately began performing first aid on the victim, and then rushed him to New-York-Presbyterian Hospital in a police cruiser. The man was later transferred to Westchester Medical Center where he died.
Neighbors say it was a frightening scene.
"Took me a few minutes to get downstairs. By the time I got down here, there were swarms of police on the corner. I think everyone was still scared, startled. We didn't know what was happening. The roads were closed off. We were still trying to comprehend what happened," says Betsy March, of Peekskill.
Police say they have at least two persons of interest in custody in connection to the shooting, but they are asking for the public's help as they continue their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call (914) 737-8000.
