A fun outing on the Long Island Sound turned tragic when a Peekskill man was killed on his kite-powered surfboard.
The search for Stoli Popow, 48, began after someone called 911 to report a kite surfer was having trouble in the water. Rescue crews searched the waters Saturday but only recovered the parachute Popow used to power his surfboard. Finally on Sunday, rescue workers were able to recover Popow's body in the Long Island Sound off the coast of Connecticut.
Witnesses say they are not sure what kind of trouble Popow ran into because the water wasn't that rough. But the Coast Guard says going into the Long Island Sound this time of year is a dangerous proposition.
