For the first time in 75 years, the city of Peekskill held its own ball drop and fireworks to mark the start of the new year.
Large crowds formed for the inaugural ball drop at the corner of Central Avenue and Division Street.
There was a run-through of the ball drop Wednesday morning. Crews set up a stage for local musical acts.
The city hopes to make the ball drop an annual celebration.
