Peekskill City Council Member Robert Scott, 44, has been charged with offering a false instrument for filing, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office.

The charges stem from an incident last year when Scott was challenging County Legislator Colin Smith in the Democratic primary. It is alleged that Scott filed designating petitions containing forged signatures of eight individuals.

Investigators discovered that these eight individuals denied ever signing a petition for Scott. The allegedly forged signatures appeared on three of the 37 sheets that Scott signed as a witness.

Scott has stated that he is fully cooperating with the district attorney's office and hopes for a swift resolution to the matter.
