Police have released 911 calls from the moments before a pedestrian was fatally struck on a busy roadway in Valhalla.
The call came in at around 7 p.m. Monday, leading officers to a dark stretch of Grassland Road where they found the body of 57-year-old Herbert John Wesley, of Mount Vernon.
Officials say the impact was so forceful that it knocked off the victim's shoes. They say the driver of the SUV likely did not see Wesley.
The busy roadway was shut down for hours as police investigated. There is no word yet as to what caused the accident.
Police say the driver of the SUV is not currently facing any charges, and they don't expect any in the future.
