A dangerous pedestrian island in Van Cortland Village will be reshaped and reinstalled, according to Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D - The Bronx).

The island in the middle of Sedgwick Avenue and Van Cortland Park West has been badly scuffed up by cars that have hit the installation since it was first built in 2012. It was originally intended to help pedestrians cross an awkward intersection.

Dinowitz says he walked officials from the city's Department of Transportation through the intersection to demonstrate the danger in the area.

"This is something people have been waiting for ever since it was installed," said Dinowitz.

A start date for the project has not been determined, but Dinowitz expects work to start soon.
