The FDNY held a special ceremony Thursday to commemorate the tragic events of "Black Sunday," honoring the lives of firefighters who perished on Jan. 23, 2005.

Among those remembered was Lt. John Bellew of Pearl River, who was one of the three FDNY members killed during two separate fires that day.

In the Bronx, crews fought a three-alarm fire, leading to Bellew and Lieutenant Curtis Meyran from Long Island jumping from a fourth-floor window due to a lack of proper safety equipment.

Both lieutenants lost their lives in the incident.

Firefighter Joseph DiBernardo, who was also critically injured, succumbed to his injuries in 2011.

On the same day, Firefighter Richard Sclafani died while responding to a basement fire in Brooklyn.
