Many drivers across the Hudson Valley say they are noticing that they're spending more at the pump to fill up their gas tanks.
New Rochelle real estate agent Cari Mermelstein says the increase is alarming.
“It's getting scary,” says Mermelstein. “The prices are jumping really fast.”
The realtor spends a lot of time behind the wheel, often traveling about 50 miles per day.
Luckily, her preferred gas station currently has some of the cheapest prices in New Rochelle.
"I'm not going more than a mile to get gas,” says Mermelstein.
According to AAA, gas prices have risen about 17 cents throughout the tri-state area within the past month.
Officials believe drivers are facing a triple whammy. “We've got cold weather coming on top of production cuts by OPEC plus and the wave of summer gasoline that's coming across the country," says Robert Sinclair, of AAA.
News 12 is told one possible way to save money on gas is to become a member of a warehouse club like Costco. The wholesale corporation chain has its own gas stations and prices are often 40 cents cheaper than a regular station.
Gas Buddy is reporting that two of the top 10 cheapest places to find gas in the county are Costco and BJ’s Wholesale.
