Gov. David Paterson proposed a new idea Tuesday aimed at getting the opposing state Senate factions to convene and pass legislation before the power struggle is resolved.

?The goal is to get an agreement on what we call a stipulated session, whereby the parties would come into session and pass legislation that has to be passed,? says Peter Kiernan, Paterson?s legal council.

If both the Democrats and Republicans agree on the resolution, it would allow the factions to get to work without having any bearing on their positions in a court case being heard Tuesday afternoon.

Before state Supreme Court Justice Thomas McNamara dismissed court once again Tuesday morning, he expressed confidence that the feuding senators can reach a compromise on their own. However, he said he is ready to step in if necessary.
