(5/03/09) YONKERS - Gov. David Paterson on Sunday updated state residents on the swine flu virus.

The governor was joined by state health officials in Manhattan who reiterated they were treating the outbreak as a serious situation, but said there was no cause for alarm.

There are three probable cases of swine flu in Orange County, which includes a worker at a Goshen nursing home. In Westchester, there are two probable cases - both of whom are children from Rye.

Patsy Yang, the Westchester deputy health commissioner, says the two children are almost fully recovered and will soon be going back to school. Yang says swine flu behaves like a seasonal flu and the health department will continue to monitor the spread and transmission of the virus.

Paterson also says the situation will have to be monitored long-term.

"This kind of flu coming at the end of a flu season and it seems more prevalent in children, opens up the possibility that perhaps the flu could return in the fall," Paterson says.
