Paterson reintroduces same-sex marriage bill

(AP) - Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.) has announced plans tolegalize same-sex marriages in New York. He hopes to tap into the momentum of other states that haverecently allowed same-sex couples to wed.

(AP) - Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.) has announced plans tolegalize same-sex marriages in New York. He hopes to tap into the momentum of other states that haverecently allowed same-sex couples to wed. New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who is openlygay, stood by Paterson's side during Thursday's announcement.Supporters cheered. Paterson noted that it's the same bill the Democrat-controlledstate Assembly passed in 2007. It died in the Senate, where theRepublican majority kept it from going to a vote. Opponents are vowing to make sure this one fails as well.
