A well-known Democrat from Tuckahoe is throwing his hat into the ring for Congress, and will take on incumbent Jamaal Bowman in a primary.
In his first interview with News 12’s senior political reporter Tara Rosenblum, Westchester Deputy Corrections Commissioner Michael Gerald officially announced his candidacy.

Gerald is a longtime pastor at Shiloh Baptist Church and says he takes issue with Bowman's voting record.

He feels the Congressman's views don't represent most voters in the 16th District.
“I think he is very problematic. I think in some ways he has not been seen or viewed, or understands the same values as the president or the leader of the House,” says Gerald.

Last week, News 12 also reported first that Westchester County Executive George Latimer is considering joining the race too - but a decision has not been announced publicly.

News 12 reached out to Bowman's team for comment and are waiting to hear back.
