Parishioners held a rally outside the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in White Plains Sunday.
The Archdiocese of New York is looking to close the church on South Lexington Avenue. The proposed closure is part of a re-organization plan announced by the Archdiocese last year.
The church's faithful are praying for a miracle to keep it open. "Our mothers and fathers and grandparents literally built this church with their own hands, and so there is a real investment here, and families have been coming for many years," says church trustee Andrew Morzello.
Timothy Cardinal Dolan says a decline in attendance and a shortage of priests are reasons for the proposed closures and mergers of churches across the archdiocese.
