Parents from the Ossining Union Free School District expressed concerns about the abrupt resignation of a beloved boys basketball coach at a school board meeting on Wednesday.
The cafeteria at Anne Dorner Middle School where the meeting was held was packed with parents and staff members who came to talk about what is going on with the boys basketball team and its coaching staff.
A couple of parents and staff members told News 12 that coach Michael Casey resigned right before the basketball season was set to begin.
Some parents said they believe the resignation may have been prompted because of alleged conflicts with the athletic director.
They said they are upset about it because Casey is a widely respected person in the district who is beloved by many people and students.
"He's a fair, honest, loyal guy," one parent said.
The athletic director sent out a letter to parents stating that coaching positions are appointed annually and that the recruitment process for the new head coach is "effective immediately."
Some parents told our crews that they believe an interim coach has already been assigned.
