Parents of students at a Mount Vernon elementary school say conditions there may be affecting their children's health.
Denise Nicholas says she feels as though she's being forced to choose between her daughter's health and her education when sending her to Cecil Parker Elementary School on South 6th Avenue.
Nicholas fears her daughter Alexis' severe migraines could be caused by health risks at the school. Parents say a leak at the school in February caused tiles in the building to come loose, which sparked concerns about possible asbestos in the building materials and mold.
The state Department of Labor recently released a report deeming the school safe, but School Board hopeful Marc Stuckey says more testing needs to be done. Stuckey has called for parents to keep their children home on Thursday and Friday.
