Co-op City residents have planned a candlelight vigil and prayer session to display their unity against violence in their community after a teenager was stabbed waiting for the bus this week.

The 16-year-old victim is in critical condition after 35-year-old Kwame Ferguson allegedly stabbed him in the head and chest. Ferguson was arrested Friday and charged with attempted murder, assault and menacing.

Police say this is the second stabbing of a teen in Co-op City in the month of December. Parents and other residents have organized the vigil to pray for the victim, but also to draw attention to stopping violence in their neighborhood. The vigil will be held Saturday, Dec. 13 at 3 p.m. at P.S. 160.
