City of Newburgh man accused of strangling a woman inside her bathroom last week has now been brutally beaten and stabbed in the face in a separate attack — just days after being released without bail in the original case.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to News 12 that Mark Adams, 41, was beaten nearly to death and stabbed repeatedly in the face Friday, Oct. 9, three days after the original incident.

Adams suffered serious injuries and was taken to Westchester Medical Center.

A source tells News 12 the attack happened around 2:35 p.m. in a park behind Horizons-on-the-Hudson Magnet School near Grand Street. The source says multiple people passing by witnessed the violence and called 911. Police reportedly found Adams seriously injured in a nearby park and closed Grand Street while investigating.

News 12 also obtained a surveillance image that appears to show Adams on the ground receiving medical assistance.

The DA’s office confirms there is video of the attack and says no arrests have been made.

Prosecutors believe social media contributed to the violence and are investigating whether the attack may have been an act of vigilante justice. A motive has not been confirmed.

The developments come days after News 12 exclusively interviewed Holly Mousseau, 52, who says Adams attacked and strangled her inside her Newburgh bathroom Tuesday, Oct. 6, after she allowed him into her home to use the restroom. Her 19-year-old daughter, Rowan, says she heard her mother’s screams and intervened with a kitchen knife to stop the attack.

Ring surveillance video captured the screams and commotion as the attack unfolded.

Police later arrested Adams and charged him with four misdemeanors, including criminal obstruction of breathing, assault and unlawful imprisonment. He was released without bail following his arraignment because the charges are not bail eligible under state law.

The DA’s office says investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding Friday’s attack on Adams and says the charges against him for the first assault remain pending.

News 12 has reached out to City of Newburgh police for additional information and is awaiting a response.
