Pace University students celebrated a major milestone on Monday.

Graduates walked across the stage at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens to accept their hard-earned diplomas.

It was also a special moment for the family of the late Purchase University student and athlete, DJ Henry.

DJ, who was Black, was killed by a white Pleasantville police officer during a chaotic scene outside a bar in 2010.

DJ was a student at the time.

His parents, Angella and Danroy Henry, turned tragedy to triumph and later founded the "DJ Henry Dream Fund" in his memory.

They were honored with the "Opportunitas in Action Award" at the commencement on Monday for giving back to students in need.

The fund empowers students in need by providing scholarships for activities like sports.
