The parents of a West Nyack victim of the 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 bombing say they are "disgusted" by the decision of Scotland's government to free the only man ever sentenced for the terrorist act.

Abdelbeset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi was convicted in 2001 of participating in the bombing that killed 270 people, seven of them from the Hudson Valley. The Scottish government decided to release Megrahi on compassionate grounds and return him to Libya Thursday after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Barbara Zwynenburg, of West Nyack, says she was thinking of her son Mark as she watched the footage of Megrahi receiving a hero's welcome in Tripoli.

"I have difficulty equating that horrendous crime of mass murder with compassion," says John Zwynenburg.
