A fatal crash shut down part of the Palisades Parkway Friday morning.
State police say one person and a dog are confirmed to have died in the three-car crash, with multiple others injured. The extent of the injuries is unknown.
The victim has been identified as Cyrus Silverio, 20, of Hackensack, New Jersey. Police say preliminary reports show Silverio was driving a 2001 black BMW southbound when two other cars -- a 1992 BMW and a 2023 gray Nissan Rogue collided for unknown reasons.  There is no word yet on any other injuries.
The parkway’s southbound lanes got moving again at Exit 10 in New City Friday about eight hours after the crash happened at an overpass.
Footage from the scene appeared to show a vehicle completely crushed on the side of the road at the North Middletown Road overpass. The cars were so mangled that crews needed chainsaws to separate and cut them loose so the vehicles could be towed away.
Southbound traffic was backed up as cars were diverted off the parkway and onto West Clarkstown Road as crews worked for hours to clear the scene.
The crash happened before 10 p.m. Thursday night, leaving lanes closed until after 6 a.m. Friday.
State police investigators are now asking anyone who may have seen the three cars prior to the accident to give them a call to help in the investigation.
