A Hudson Valley ice rink honoring the skaters, coaches and family members who died in the Washington D.C. plane crash in January.
"I hope that everybody knows how great a loss this was to the skating community," says Joy Burrows, a figure skater. "I want to make this performance count, to remember my friend."
A total of 28 figure skaters performed at the tribute show called "Hearts on Ice Tribute to Flight 5342.
"All the kids in our rink that are skating in the show, going out and leaving a heart on the ice for every skater, family member and coach who was lost," says Christina Makris, skating school director for the Palisades Center Ice Rink.
For some at the Palisades Center Ice Rink in Nyack, this hits home.
"I met her at a camp that I did last year. It was only two days. It was very short, but I got to know her briefly. Her name was Brielle," says Burrows.
"I knew the coaches really well," says Emma Yu, a figure skater. "She helped me make my spins for last season."
Skaters and coaches at the rink say it's a close-knit community, so it's important to honor the lives lost.
"What we are doing tonight is not something that is good for the moment but will be good in the future," says Gilberto Viadana, a coach.
All of the proceeds made from the event will be donated to the U.S. Figure Skating Family Support Fund.
