An overweight Chihuahua is on his way to finding a fur-ever home after rescuers in Orange County say the dog’s owner wanted to put him down because of his size.
Members of the Middletown Humane Society named the 25-pound dog “Pancake.”
“The vet talked his owner into surrendering him,” says shelter manager Maureen Hogan.
Rescuers say Pancake’s owner in Georgia wanted to put him down instead of trying a new diet. His vet got him up to rescuers in Orange County last week.
“He lost seven pounds already, so he’s getting there,” says Hogan.
News 12 stopped by the shelter on Tuesday while the roughly 5-year-old dog visited with a potential adopter.
“I saw his picture and I said, 'Oh, he’s so cute,'” says Jodith Hoptanich, from Middletown. “I lost a dog two months ago so it’s perfect timing.”
Rescuers say Pancake was transported by the rescue group “Puppy Pipeline,” which brought up 47 other dogs and puppies that are now up for adoption at the Middletown Humane Society.
As for Pancake, “He’s getting his summer body,” Hogan says.
