An Ossining homeowner made a 911 call Thursday after a black rat snake found its way into his kitchen.
Bart Warden was making dinner when he spotted the snake next to his stove.
"I was scared. It's really freaky to see something like that in our house," Warden told News 12.
Three Ossining police officers responded to the 911 call and captured the incident on their body cameras.
"There isn't a standard operating procedure for snake catching in police work," said Sgt. Paul Schemmer, who took control of the situation.
He says once he determined the snake wasn't dangerous, he used a golf club to wrangle it from behind the stove and then carried it out with his bare hands. He says the goal was to leave both the snake and the kitchen intact.
While video of the dramatic rescue is gaining popularity on Facebook and YouTube, Sgt. Schemmer insists they were all just doing their jobs.
The snake was taken to a local park and set free.
