Ossining officials announced Tuesday that the town will be ending their long-time contract with the Westchester County Police Department.
The Town of Ossining and the Village of Ossining have agreed on contract terms for the Village of Ossining to provide police services to the area.
The announcement comes after months of negotiations with village officials as the four-year contract with Westchester County police neared its end.
Town officials say the decision to part ways with county police is a deal that will save taxpayers $2.8 million over four years.
During the negotiations, the Village of Ossining proposed charging $7.5 million for its police services. County police would have charged more than $10 million for the duration of their four-year contract.
Some residents say that they're worried over what the changes in policing will bring. Ossining Village Police Chief Joseph Burton says residents have nothing to worry about.
The department will also add an additional five officers to the current 56-man roster.
The new contract for police services begins on Jan. 1, 2015 and runs through 2018.
