As the nation embraces its first ever woman vice president, history is also being made in Orange County.
Hyun Chin Kim is the first woman and first Asian American elected as Orange County Court judge.
Kim began her career in the Bronx District Attorney's Office, where she met her husband, Paul Ernenwein.
Shortly after, the couple moved to Orange County to continue their careers and start a family.
Kim has served in private practice, the Orange County District Attorney's Office and as court attorney for Judge William Deprospo.
Kim's professional and personal experiences as a woman and immigrant overwhelmingly resonated with voters and landed her 60% of the vote to fill retiring Judge Robert Freehill's seat. But the campaign wasn't always easy.
"During the pandemic there was an anti-Asian sentiment," said Kim. "There was an incident where my signs were stolen and dropped off in front of a Chinese restaurant."
Kim now hopes her win serves as inspiration to others.
"I want to set the example of if you work hard enough, you can do anything," said Kim. "When a young lady looks at me and says 'I think I can do that,' that would be wonderful."
