Thursday's snowstorm blasted the Hudson Valley with snow and wind as crews responded to the aftermath.
Unfortunately, the coronavirus has caused staff shortages among Public Works departments - from towns and cities, up to the county.
“I had about seven of my DPW that are either quarantining or have the virus,” said Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus.
Neuhaus says the Town of Monroe and the City of Newburgh are also understaffed, but colleagues in other departments, such as Parks and Recreation, are stepping in to bridge the gap.
It’s a seamless fix to make sure the roads are accessible to both first responders and residents — and the effort was noticed by the community.
Orange County is not alone. In Dutchess County, shortages are also impacting local departments.
