Dozens of Orange County workers could get pink slips soon, as legislators prepare to vote on a plan to close the county's $60 million budget gap.
Under the budget plan, 50 county jobs will be cut to save nearly $3 million. The proposal also trims out bonuses, re-negotiates dozens of worker contracts and offers retirement incentives.
County Executive Steve Neuhaus says it's a tough decision he has had to make to avoid raising taxes. He says the county doesn't want to put people out of work, but it has been left with little choice.
A CSEA representative says the union is concerned about how the layoffs and early retirements will affect the county's productivity.
It's still unclear which county jobs are on the chopping block.
