(10/16/06) SOMERS ? Monday morning was a bit tougher than usual for many Somers residents who dealt with power outages and a road closure following a one-car accident.
Police say 23-year-old Lorenzo Nocera of Yorktown was ejected from the sunroof of his car after smashing into two utility poles on Route 202 Sunday night. In order to replace the poles, NYSEG crews had to shut off power to about 400 customers for a half hour. In addition, the stretch of Route 202 between Lovell Street and Maple Avenue was closed down for about 10 hours after the accident.
Police were eventually able to open up one lane to allow traffic through. Nocera was taken to Westchester Medical Center where he was scheduled to undergo surgery. Police say it doesn't appear drugs or alcohol were a factor but they are continuing to investigate.
