The oldest large home in Mamoroneck is up for sale.
Built in 1792, the Delancey Cooper House has been a fixture in the community on West Boston Post Road for 223 years.
Author James Fenimore Cooper lived and wrote his first novel, "The Spy," there.
There is now a restaurant on the first floor and two apartments up above.
A developer has offered $3 million for the property, but the current owners, three siblings who grew up there, are willing to take $2.5 million in order to make sure the historic house is not destroyed or moved.
The Mamaroneck Historical Society is looking to make the garage, which was once the barn, into a museum, but they need donors to purchase the home.
