They came from far and wide ? some waiting up to 15 minutes ? to fill up their cars at a Hawthorne gas station where pumps don't go beyond $3.99.
"The cheapest is $4.11 so it's worth driving an extra few miles just to come here and get gas," said Debbi Riccardi, of Armonk.
The Commerce Street Getty station is so busy that cars line up in the street, turning the gas station into a parking lot. "Yesterday we sold out of gas and today it's getting crazy too," said owner Bob Gupta. According to Gupta, the station sold more than 5,000 gallons of gasoline Friday, more than twice the usual amount.
Gupta added four attendants to keep up with the demand while he awaits word from the corporate office about if or when the pumps will be modified or replaced.
