New York State Thruway Authority officials are warning residents about a scam involving E-ZPass.
Officials say there's a phishing scam via email going around disguised to be a warning about unpaid tolls.
The email, which also appears to have the E-ZPass service center logo, has a link to download and pay an invoice.
Officials say the phishing scheme is really just a way to try and get your financial information, so it's important to not click the link or respond to the email.
One Yonkers residents tells News 12 she got one of the bogus emails. "I just looked, and I just knew I had to delete it, I don't open anything up like that," says Helen Widing.
While the email may look real, officials say E-ZPass does not send emails to notify people of unpaid tolls. Instead, they send all notices through the U.S. Mail.
