A fast-moving electrical fire Friday night displaced a West Haverstraw family.
Eight people, including at least five children, escaped the burning Benson Street home.
Fire officials say an overloaded power outlet likely sparked the fire.
They say an electrical surge may have caused a charging iPad to ignite. Flames spread to the bed and then grew out of control.
About 50 firefighters from multiple departments responded to contain the blaze.
Officials say residents should be careful when plugging in multiple devices to power strips.
