Nearly 40,000 homes without electricity as powerful storms batter the Hudson Valley

Thousands of customers remain without power across the Hudson Valley and Westchester after severe storms and extreme weather swept through the region over the holiday weekend.
Con Edison said crews have restored power to more than 166,800 of the approximately 173,700 customers whose service was impacted by record-breaking heat and severe thunderstorms with damaging winds.
Utility crews continue working around the clock to restore service.
Con Edison said 95% of affected Westchester customers are expected to have power restored by 7 p.m. Monday.
The cities of Yonkers, Mount Vernon, Rye and New Rochelle experienced the largest number of storm-related outages, according to Con Edison.
Central Hudson also continues restoration efforts following Saturday's storm.
The utility said about 600 outages were affecting more than 28,000 customers in Dutchess, Orange and parts of Putnam counties Monday morning.
Central Hudson said 90% of affected customers are expected to have power restored by 4 p.m. Monday.
Customers in Dutchess County are expected to have service restored by Tuesday night.
The utility company said the region was hit especially hard by the weekend storm.
