Local health officials have been fishing for a way to reduce people's chances of being infected with the West Nile virus.
The Westchester County Health Department gave away thousands of minnows to homeowners who have Oriental ponds.
Authorities say the little swimmers help prevent ponds from becoming mosquito-breeding grounds.
Using the minnows is a natural way of controlling the mosquito population.
