State environmental officials and state police are working with the U.S. Coast Guard to monitor the impact of a transformer fire at the Indian Point power plant.
A transformer erupted on Saturday, causing oil to spill into the Hudson River.
One of the reactors is currently shut down and will be out for a few weeks.
At normal capacity, reactors 2 and 3 provide 2,000 megawatts of power. With one of them being out, about 1 million people could feel the effects.
The DEP held hearings on what it might cost the public if Indian Point were shut down for a certain period of time. The analysis showed that it would cost several hundred million dollars over a period of time to replace Indian Point's power.
Entergy says a safe cleanup is its main focus, as well as figuring out what went wrong.
All 172 emergency sirens in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties will be tested Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. The sirens will sound for four minutes.
