Officials say a mother threatened to hurt her children at a White Plains shelter Tuesday night.
County police say the threats were made at the Coachman Family Shelter. A resident tells News 12 that the woman threatened to drown her children, but that has not been confirmed by police.
Police say they responded to the shelter and located the 29-year-old woman as well as her two children, ages 1 and 2 years old.
Officials say the woman, who had left her room and locked it, was found by officers elsewhere in the facility. The children were placed in emergency foster care as the woman undergoes a mental health evaluation at a local hospital.
Residents in the facility say incidents like this have happened before, and that there needs to be more security.
Officials of the Coachman Family Shelter declined to comment.
No criminal charges have been filed at this time. News 12 is told police are interviewing witnesses and are waiting for a search warrant for the woman's room.
